Detroit has many suburbs, some large, some small, and many in between. Southfield, Michigan is one of these suburban areas, and is one of the cities considered to be a larger suburb. The area’s proximity to Detroit makes it very attractive as a home to potential working class members in Detroit, as it offers a smaller version of the mega city, some of the small town benefits with much less of the big city hassle.

Southfield is best known for convention areas and skyscrapers, catering to the big business world and upper-echelon executives and CEOs. In fact, there are five gold skyscrapers in Southfield, collectively called Southfield Town Center, and they boast over two million square feet of space. There are other skyscrapers forming the skyline of the city as well, and the American Center is another popular business attraction in Southfield. Catering to these business boomers, a stunning luxury high rise is found near the skyscrapers, offering residents a view of life in the higher reaches.

However, Southfield does not only appeal to the rich and business-minded. Family-oriented farmers and businessmen who saw the natural beauty and potential for the area originally founded the town in the early nineteenth century. The area developed rapidly and has grown exponentially over the last hundred years or so, reaching nearly eighty thousand year-round residents at any given time. Southfield has long been one of Detroit’s more popular suburbs, and attracts more of those residents wishing to flee life in the fast lane than many other suburban areas.

As is the case with any business-oriented city, there is still room for entertainment. All work and no play would make the city dull, and the cultural offerings are as outstanding as the city itself. A beautiful golf course complete with a swimming pool and a sports arena is in the area, and there are several municipal parks and recreational areas that have been added more recently. Beech Woods Recreation Center and John Grace Community Center are two of the newest, and most popular, of the recreational facilities in Southfield. Movie complexes, theatrical events, and art exhibitions round out the cultural gathering in the city, attracting tens of thousands each year.

Southfield also offers the cost-saving benefit of corporate housing. Unique in that these units often offer luxury amenities such as fully furnished units and flexible leases, they are, however, very reasonably priced and geared toward the lower and middle classes instead of restricted to only the rich. No matter what has caused the sudden move, job relocation, medical reasons, home repair/remodel, or natural disaster, corporate housing is available to fill the gap while a lasting home can be found, built, or repaired.
